One of our favorite pastimes here in Chiang Saen is sitting by the Mekong River, watching longtail boats pass by and admiring the Laotian mountains in the background. An amazing coffeeshop is located nearby, so we often enjoy the view with a Thai iced tea or banana smoothie. At night, street vendors offering fish fresh from the river and other delicacies line up along the river, with low tables for you to dine on while sitting on the ground.
